Decomposed Granite

Due to the City of Ottawa load restrictions, we are limited to a maximum of 8 cubic yards per load of Decomposed Granite from mid March until end of May.

If used and appropriately applied, Decomposed Granite can be one of the most beautiful materials for hardscaping. However, that's not all; besides its excellent texture, decomposed Granite offers an abundance of advantages over other hardscaping materials.

Decomposed Granite is like much finer and more stable gravel. Decomposed Granite particles can vary in size, but they're not usually larger than three-eight inches, only smaller. As the name suggests, Decomposed Granite is obtained from decomposed or eroded hard granite rocks, so the colours may vary from gray, black, red, and green.

You might not have noticed it until now, but decomposed Granite is used everywhere, from simple garden paths, park walkways, driveways, parks, and tree bases. It offers a unique and solid texture to which dirt, mud, animal waste, and odours won't stick. You may have noticed our decomposed Granite in Fallowfield Via Rail Memorial Park or Jack Purcell Dog Park in Ottawa.

3/4" - 1 1/2" Black Granite

Black Granite, since it has a black colour, can carry out a variety of different looks that other stones simply can’t. It is similar to White Calcite Stone, and when the two are combined, it results in a very unique and modern look.

How to Use Black Granite Stone

- Black Granite Stone can be used as a house border. Combined with a few plants, Black Granite will accent the features of your house, and its unique and beautiful design will catch the attention of anyone passing by.

Premium Bedding Stone

Sometimes known as High Performance Bedding, Premium Bedding Stone makes a great base material when laying patio stones. It’s unique angular particles interlock, so it does not shift or heave when it is contained by edging. It can also be used as backfill around the pool or behind retaining walls, and it drains well under slabs.

Applications:

Premium Bedding Stone is an alternative to stone dust & 7/8" crushed stone as a base material for interlocking or laying patio stones.
Premium Bedding Stone must be used in an excavated space.

Natural Playground Installation

As a new concept, homeowners and schools have been creating Natural Playgrounds for children to encourage more environmentally focused, natural play. Step 1: Dig out the area approximately 6" in depth and install geotextile to ensure stone does not work its way into the existing soil and restrict weeds from growing.

Step 2: Install edging to restrict grass from growing into the pea stone.

Step 3: Install 6" of 3/8"-5/8" Coloured Riverwash Stone (pea stone) or Playground Stone.

Step 4: Visit Greely Sand & Gravel Inc.'s landscape depot located at 1971 Old Prescott Road to pick out the stone you want for your Natural Playground. Choose from a variety of stone, including Large Landscape Boulders, Tatlock Mining Stone, Granite Stone, Mountain Grey Wall Stone, Bobcat Armour Stone, and Tan Armour Stone. Set up the delivery date.

Step 5: Install the boulders and wall stone using a boom truck (of course, depending on access to your Natural Playground).

Step 6: It's playtime!!

Clear Limestone

Clear limestone is free of fines, making it ideal in places where you need drainage. Because Clear Limestone does not compact, it ensures drainage through the stone bed.

Our limestones have fractured faces, preventing rolling or shifting once in place. Greely’s limestone is ideal in areas where workers are present, such as ditches or in tight waterproofing spots.

A clear, angular stone without any fines, Clear Limestone, is a versatile product that has widespread appeal among landscapers and contractors worldwide.

The Difference Between Clear Stone and Crushed Stone

Limestone is an aggregate composed of calcium carbonate. After it is mined, the stone is then crushed or cut to specific sizes where it can be used in various applications. It is important to choose the right product for your project.

Clear Stone is most commonly used in drainage situations such as around weeping tile, as a base for poured concrete or in window wells. Because it does not pack together, it offers built-in drainage. Clear stone is sometimes known as drainage stone.

Crushed stone, a mixture of stone dust and stone of various sizes, packs together nicely. Ideal for situations where you need it to pack together, crushed stone is the product you want for walkways & driveways, or anywhere you need a good, hard base.

What is Gravel?
