Ornamental Pond Stone 6" – 14"

Ornamental Pond Stone is the essence of a natural-looking pond. Without decorative Pond Stone, your pond might look closer to a small pool rather than a pond.

With a mix of red, gray, green, white, black, and blue stones that could be considered small boulders, Ornamental Pond Stone will give so much depth to your pond and the overall landscape.

There are a variety of different and creative ways to use Ornamental Pond Stone; for example, it can be used as a standalone decorative piece or even a walkway to the pond. When it comes to the Ornamental Pond Stone, creativity is your only limit!

How to Use Ornamental Pond Stone

  • The primary use for Ornamental Pond Stone is as pond beds. The stones soaked in water have a very unique look, especially under sunlight. Another fantastic benefit is that you can easily plant various plants between the rocks for a fresh new look.
  • Ornamental Pond Stones are perfect for holding and guiding water into a small, rapid stream. That’s because they’re essentially small boulders, and stacked on top of each other, they’ll be able to withstand the pressure of the water.
  • Ornamental Pond Stone isn’t only decoration for large aquariums and small fish ponds. Because of the helpful bacteria that grow on the stones, they will help keep fish, turtles, and other water animals happy and healthy.
  • Bordering paths and walkways or simply stacking Ornament Pond Stone can add depth and uniqueness to your landscape. Be as creative as you want!

How to Build a Pond With Ornamental Pond Stone

First, you’ll have to find a good spot for your pond, measure out the hole and put it to paper, or visualize it in your hand.

Decide whether you’re going to use Ornamental Pond Stone exclusively or mix it with pebbles, gravel, or other types of stone; if you need help choosing the stone, Greely Sand & Stone can help you decide.

Please Note:  These are large stones/boulders.  You must view the Ornamental Pond Stone in person before ordering by telephone or in person.

Decomposed Granite

If used and appropriately applied, Decomposed Granite can be one of the most beautiful materials for hardscaping. However, that's not all; besides its excellent texture, decomposed Granite offers an abundance of advantages over other hardscaping materials.

Decomposed Granite is like much finer and more stable gravel. Decomposed Granite particles can vary in size, but they're not usually larger than three-eight inches, only smaller. As the name suggests, Decomposed Granite is obtained from decomposed or eroded hard granite rocks, so the colours may vary from gray, black, red, and green.

You might not have noticed it until now, but decomposed Granite is used everywhere, from simple garden paths, park walkways, driveways, parks, and tree bases. It offers a unique and solid texture to which dirt, mud, animal waste, and odours won't stick. You may have noticed our decomposed Granite in Fallowfield Via Rail Memorial Park or Jack Purcell Dog Park in Ottawa.

3/4" - 1 1/2" Black Granite

Black Granite, since it has a black colour, can carry out a variety of different looks that other stones simply can’t. It is similar to White Calcite Stone, and when the two are combined, it results in a very unique and modern look.

Greely Sand & Stone offers Black Granite Stone in 3/4” - 1 1/2” sizes to be used for nearly anything; decorative stone around the garden, house border, pool, pond, aquarium decoration, etc.

Here are some of the best ways to use Black Granite around your home:

How to Use Black Granite Stone

- Black Granite Stone can be used as a house border. Combined with a few plants, Black Granite will accent the features of your house, and its unique and beautiful design will catch the attention of anyone passing by.

- Decorating flower beds, gardens, and tree beds with Black Granite will add so much personality and depth to your landscape, especially if you can combine the Black Granite with White Stone or Red Stone.

- Black Granite is an excellent stone to use for ponds, fish ponds, aquariums, and fountains. Using it as a pond bed will give your pond a unique, night-sky look.

- Black Granite is also an excellent cover-up for areas in your yard where grass just won’t grow. Instead of grass, you’ll have a very unique space that adds depth to the overall landscape.

Black Granite represents quality and elegance, so although it can be used in many different creative ways, it’s usually recommended to use Black Granite Stone for modern aesthetics. However, once again, the extent of your creativity is the only limit!

Roofing Stone

Flat rooftops are one of the most utilized construction techniques due to cost-effectiveness and ease of construction. However, issues such as leakage can quickly occur without Roofing Stone to help with the roof’s durability.

The primary purpose of Roofing Stone is to serve as protection and maintenance for flat roofs. By properly fixing the stone to the roof surface, the stone will absorb the sun’s UV rays and help anchor the material underneath.

Greely recommends and offers Washed Pea Stone as the best solution. Washed Pea Stone is a mix of white, gray, brown, red, green, and blue river rocks with a smooth texture.

Washed Pea Stone Uses

The ideal use for Washed Pea Stone is as a Roofing Stone; however, it can be used for various other applications such as:

  • Use for drainage, backfill, and pipe bedding
  • Garden decoration, garden beds, and garden drainage
  • Washed Pea Stone is often used for walkways and pathways
  • Sometimes used as a base for children’s playgrounds

Washed Pea Stone is used as Roofing Stone due to its characteristics rather than its texture. However, Washed Pea Stone is widely used for other applications due to its natural texture that doesn’t stand out but still breathes life into the landscape.

Why is Roofing Stone Important?

A built-up roof (BUR) is a very common style of flat roof built from alternating layers of various materials, most commonly fibreglass and asphalt. Roofing stone is then embedded into the topcoat of the asphalt, the flood coat, to prevent the roof from cracking, degradation, UV rays, and leaks.

The BUR itself is built to be waterproof; however, Roofing Stone provides support against and extends the roof’s life.

Depending on the climate, simply pouring Roofing Stones on top of a flat roof could be more detrimental, even dangerous, than not having the additional support from the Washed Pea Stone or other Roofing Stone; Roofing Stone must be embedded.

Sizes Available:  Greely Sand and Stone carries Roofing Stone in 3/8” size. Order it by the bag (3 convenient sizes) or by the truckload!

Premium Bedding Stone

Sometimes known as High Performance Bedding, Premium Bedding Stone makes a great base material when laying patio stones. It’s unique angular particles interlock, so it does not shift or heave when it is contained by edging. It can also be used as backfill around the pool or behind retaining walls, and it drains well under slabs.

Applications:

  • Premium Bedding Stone is an alternative to stone dust & 7/8" crushed stone as a base material for interlocking or laying patio stones.
  • Premium Bedding Stone must be used in an excavated space.
  • also known as High Performance Bedding
  • also known as 1/4" clear limestone

Natural Playground Installation

As a new concept, homeowners and schools have been creating Natural Playgrounds for children to encourage more environmentally focused, natural play. Greely Sand & Gravel Inc. offers a wide variety of boulders and wall stone to allow creativity to flow in design, installation, and ultimately, playtime. Choose from Cheetah Stone or Elephant Stone for "stepping stones" to Mountain Grey Wall Stone for a stage or table top. And just think, once the children grow out of the natural playground, you can turn it into an outdoor bonfire area to create new fun and excitement.

Step 1: Dig out the area approximately 6" in depth and install geotextile to ensure stone does not work its way into the existing soil and restrict weeds from growing.

Step 2: Install edging to restrict grass from growing into the pea stone.

Step 3: Install 6" of 3/8"-5/8" Coloured Riverwash Stone (pea stone) or Playground Stone.

Natural Playground

Step 4: Visit Greely Sand & Gravel Inc.'s landscape depot located at 1971 Old Prescott Road to pick out the stone you want for your Natural Playground.  Choose from a variety of stone, including Large Landscape Boulders, Tatlock Mining Stone, Granite Stone, Mountain Grey Wall Stone, Bobcat Armour Stone, and Tan Armour Stone.  Set up the delivery date.

Step 5: Install the boulders and wall stone using a boom truck (of course, depending on access to your Natural Playground).

                                                                                 Step 6: It's playtime!!
