Excavation Bins

Yard-Bin-Blog

Summer is flying by but there is still time to complete your landscaping project this year! Late summer or early fall can be a great season for working on your property or doing some extra maintenance to prepare for winter. A major part of many landscaping projects is removing the existing grass and soil in order to make room for your new garden, patio, pool, pond, walkway, or whatever other feature you are adding to your property. At Greely Sand & Gravel, we make it easy to remove and dispose of soil so your project can continue on schedule!

If your project produces more excavation waste than would fit in one of our handy DisposaBags (read more about that service here), consider using our Yard Waste Bin service. Greely Sand & Gravel’s Yard Waste Bins are compact enough to fit in your driveway but large enough to hold up to eight cubic yards of soil. Measuring in at 8’ x 10’ x 3.5’, our bins can fit in smaller spaces, allowing us to place them in a more convenient location for your project.

Every Yard Waste Bin comes with a three day rental period to give you sufficient time to fill the bin. If you need more time, you can extend your rental, paying per day for any extra days.

In order to have excess soil removed from your property, you will be asked to complete an Excess Soil form. This is a provincial requirement that helps ensure the reuse of excavated soil and prevents cross contamination from occurring during that process. For more information, please visit the Excess Soil page on our website.

When you have excavated the soil from your project area, use a shovel and wheelbarrow to transport it to the Yard Waste Bin. The back of the bin unlocks and opens like a door to allow easy access to fill the bin. Remember that only natural excavation material (soil, grass, sand) can be placed in a Yard Waste Bin, in order to allow for recycling. Once you reach the fill line indicated on the inside of the container, stop filling and give us a call to arrange pick up.

It is important to remember not to overfill your bin. Adding extra weight above the recommended amount can potentially cause the bin to overflow when being picked up, or cause damage to your driveway. If you have concerns about your particular driveway logistics, please give our office a call and we can walk you through what to expect. All our staff are highly trained and do their best to place and remove the bins with minimal hassle and no damage. Additionally, special placement boards are used to protect your driveway during the rental period.

Our Yard Waste Bins can also be used to dispose of leaf and yard waste, such as tree branches, shrubs, and plants. It’s important to keep in mind that the two waste streams cannot be mixed, so your rental is either for excavation waste or leaf and yard waste.  Refer to our itemized list on our website to properly identify which waste stream works best for you.

If you are looking for a convenient, hassle-free way to dispose of your excess soil or leaf & yard waste this summer, our Yard Waste Bin service is perfect for you! Just give our office a call at 613-821-3003 and we can have a bin dropped off within just a few days. We can’t wait to help you get your yard looking fabulous before the year is out!
